Liberal Apologetics for Hitler, et al.

Boy, I thought I had seen it all.

Here’s a post from Peter Mehlman at the Huffington Post called “At least they didn’t mean well…

It puts everything I have ever suspected about liberals right up front: they think decent people doing their best are intentionally bad, and they find excuses for the truly evil among us. For example:

“You could argue that even the world’s worst fascist dictators at least meant well. They honestly thought were doing good things for their countries by suppressing blacks/eliminating Jews/eradicating free enterprise/repressing individual thought/killing off rivals/invading neighbors, etc.”

Straight from the horse’s mouth, that is. Any questions?

    Dear Trent,

The G.O.P. candidates (remember, primaries are a race to the base) normally spend so much energy condemning Democrats and leftists that I’m a little surprised your man didn’t give an answer that incorporated such a dig at the questioner, who, though an American citizen, is by implication of your argument undeserving of an honest assessment from her future elected representative.

As I said, I could care less about whether or not Romney’s sons are military; I pointed out that I think his response looks particularly egotistical and politically deaf. If you want to generalize “liberals” (I’d like to hear how you define that term in contrast to the historical or economic definition) as being anti-military, I’d ask you to please stop before making such sweeping and unfair generalizations, because I find it personally insulting to my family history. In case you haven’t noticed, the military is made up of lots of different Americans, and when you get lots of different Americans together, they’re going to have divergent political beliefs. I’m not out there looking for proof that today’s conservatives support America’s enemies, so I question why you would do so. If the argument for your side’s policy is so iron-clad, why are you making sweeping and unfair generalizations about your ideological opponents?

    Later bro,
    Pat
