Other Men’s Goods

“Wo unto you apoor men, whose hearts are not broken, whose spirits are not contrite, and whose bellies are not satisfied, and whose hands are not stayed from laying holdкомпютри upon other men’s goods, whose eyes are full of bgreediness, and who will not clabor with your own hands!” –D&C 56:17

“They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a atree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.” –Isaiah 65:22

What greater condemnation of Socialism could there be than from God himself? One witness from the Old Testament, and one from the current dispensation through Joseph Smith.

I heard a young LDS guy on the radio a few months back who was convinced that Socialism was the United Order. It was troubling to me. How many of the Latter-day Saints think that Socialism is akin to the United Order? I’d like to hear from you. Post your comments to this post below.

The rhetoric that Socialist use to sell their product usually sounds great. Everyone will be equal and everyone will be taken care of etc. On the surface it might sound similar to the United Order, but ultimately they are fueled by completely different motives. Sure, some might be inclined to support Socialism for altruistic reasons. However, when actually enforced it is used as a means to control the people. The few decide what’s “best” for everyone else. Somehow the leaders of such systems end up with all the money and power while the people are poor and powerless. The key difference between Socialism and the United Order is Love. The United Order works when not only the people have genuine love and concern for each other but also those in power. I don’t think that can happen in our current state, I think we are going to have to wait until Christ is reigning personally on the earth for the United Order to work. Christ loves us all and knows exactly what we need. Until we have perfect leadership and a genuine love and concern for our fellowmen the United Order will not work. Anything attempting to substitute that is merely a philosophy of man which may or may not be mingled with Scripture.
